The majority of Britain’s tower blocks have originally been designed to provide affordable and safe housing to a large number of residents. With great views and surrounding public open spaces, many of them were created to replace damaged or unsanitary pre-war dwellings, with the aim of modernising our cities and improving the living conditions of many.
Ambion Heating, the manufacturer of innovative Low Carbon Heat Panel technology, has announced it is working with Bellway Homes as part of the University of Salford’s Energy House 2.0 facility
Ambion Heating has been chosen as an innovation partner by the Wates Innovation Network (WIN) portal, an initiative of the Wates Group, one of the UK’s leading construction, development and property services companies.
An independent study by the widely respected engineering consultancy, Fichtner Consulting Engineers, has revealed the significant energy savings that can be achieved by installing Ambion’s Low Carbon Heat Panels when compared to traditional heating systems
This time last year, I wrote about what I wanted to see happen in 2021 to drive forward the UK’s net zero ambition by decarbonising as many homes as possible.
Government needs to focus on low-carbon innovation to decarbonise the UK’s housing stock.
First Start Homes, the leading modular homes developer, has cemented its credentials as a manufacturer of eco-friendly off-site properties, by installing computer-controlled infrared (CCIR) heating from Ambion to significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Ambion, the manufacturer of computer-controlled infrared (CCIR) space heating technology, has expanded its portfolio to include KERS water heating systems, providing social housing organisations with a comprehensive solution to help them update their properties to EPC rating C.
Specialist housing provider, Whiteley Homes Trust is reducing its residents’ energy bills while increasing comfort levels by switching to a new, low-carbon, high-performance form of heating.
For us, it was important to get across the key message that embracing a range of innovative technologies - such as Ambion’s system - will be crucial to help meet this huge challenge, and why putting all the focus on one or two solutions like air source heat pumps (ASHPs), is not the answer.
While the anticipated Heat and Buildings Strategy, which is due at some point in Q1 this year, will hopefully put some more detail around how this will be achieved, interest is growing around low-carbon technologies, such as computer-controlled infrared (CCIR) heating, as one of the solutions to help with the transition.
In a report published in summer 2020 - ‘Net Zero: the road to low carbon heat’ - the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) outlined what it called the ‘colossal challenge of decarbonising heat in the UK’.
It is fair to say that 2020 has been challenging for many industries, resulting in a huge upheaval in how we work and live. At Ambion, we were not immune - in fact, we were in the middle of a funding round when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
An independent review of Ambion’s performance has revealed that our technology can provide the same level of comfort within a room while using less energy than traditional convection heating or air source heat pumps.
Every energy user relies on their energy supplier to enable them to keep our lights on and stay warm at home - but those who are vulnerable require even greater support from their suppliers. With the number of customers in vulnerable situations set to rise as our population ages and the impact of COVID-19 continues to affect many peoples’ jobs and wellbeing, Ambion could help suppliers to meet these customers’ needs.
Since the coronavirus crisis caused many businesses to close their offices, the UK has seen a significant rise in the number of people working from home. This is a trend that looks set to continue - which means that as we move toward the colder months, you could find yourself relying on your home heating system more than ever before.
The Government has confirmed that the long-awaited Heat and Buildings Strategy will be published later this year - but with the ban on gas heating in new builds from 2025 less than five years away, housebuilders are seeking a low-carbon heating alternative now. So, how can housebuilders find the ideal solution to help them to meet changing heat in buildings legislation?
Infrared heating has the potential to transform the way we heat homes and businesses across the UK - but when it comes to choosing a system, it’s important to remember that they’re not all created equal.
As the UK strives to ‘build back better’ with a green recovery from the coronavirus crisis, the increase in Government support for clean technologies will be welcomed by many who realise the urgent need for action against climate change. But with funding favouring some technologies over others, could the Government be limiting important innovations?
After a successful trial, Ambion is currently installing 33 systems. In November 2019 Merthyr selected Ambion for a full solar/battery heating trial. Results so far suggest electricity costs have fallen over 60% compared with previous electric panel heaters.
The Whiteley Homes Trust is a small charity running a unique retirement community in Surrey that provides housing and supports the health and wellbeing of around 450 older people who are unable to rent or buy their own homes.
In November 2018, 48 ambion heaters were installed for a customer trial which confirmed an 80% energy savings compared with the previous electrically-heated system. Based on the success of the trial, further orders are underway.
Following a series of trials which showed that Ambion systems dramatically lowered heating costs for their 1 bed properties, HHP has now installed over 250 Ambion systems. HHP views Ambion systems as a viable solution to replacing costly storage heaters.

‘I'm happy with how easy the heater system is to use and how well the hot water system works. It's so small I didn't think it would be possible to give out hot water all the time but I never run out and it never runs cold. Our bath is huge and our previous system really struggled to even half fill it with hot water but now we can run a whole bath and more. We have greater control over heating the house and so greater control over our consumption. We’re saving money and energy compared to our previous system, so we feel good all round!

‘The heaters are great. I know it’s different than normal heating but the house just feels warmer than before., I think that’s got to do with the infrared. We just got our electric statement for the year and it shows we have used £342 less than the year before. We knew we were saving but it’s good to know that what we’ve saved this year we could go on a cheap holiday to Spain on or something. We’re really pleased with them and the savings.’

‘We bought a house at auction and it was gutted, with no kitchen/bathroom/heating or anything. A friend of ours had the heater system installed in their property and we wanted it too. Ambion were great and really worked with us regarding the building work and installing the heaters and hot water system (which has turned out to be a much better option than a boiler), even when we had to reschedule a few times due to the building work being delayed here and there. They were great and never complained and when it came to it the installation they were quick at putting everything in. 8 months after completing the work our house is our home now and the heaters and the water system are just perfect, no problems and most importantly no regrets. 100 percent would (and do) recommend.’

TrustPilot Review - Absolutely brilliant piece of kit. We’ve had them in our home for 4 years, in our flat that we rent out for two years, and we’ve just helped our daughter get them for her home. Between the three homes, we’ve not had one problem and we’ve had much better bills and heating efficiency. We have the picture covers in our home - which are of very good quality and allow us to heat the home without having to see radiators all over the place and in the flat the heaters are just standard but up on the walls again to give what is quite a small home more room for things like furniture or just space. We love our heating system and so do our tenants, and of course our daughter is so impressed she’s now got one herself. Whenever we have people round and they ask about it I always give your number out as it’s just so good - I’m always recommending it.
